Fourth Estate Publishes Full list of Foreign Scholarships beneficiaries fully funded by government – Part 1

Scholarships Bonanza: Full list of Foreign Scholarships beneficiaries – Part 1

In a groundbreaking investigation conducted by The Fourth Estate in 2021, a trove of data regarding Ghanaians awarded educational sponsorships by the Scholarships Secretariat during the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 academic periods was acquired.

Delving into this wealth of information, The Fourth Estate uncovered a staggering total of 966 scholarships, entirely funded by the Government of Ghana. Remarkably, the Scholarships Secretariat disbursed a substantial sum amounting to GHS 237.5 million in 2019 and GHS 200 million in 2020 to facilitate these educational opportunities.

Recent revelations by The Fourth Estate have cast a spotlight on significant irregularities within Ghana’s scholarship allocation framework. Notably, a considerable portion of the allocated funds appears to have been channeled towards individuals with affiliations to the political and social elite, raising profound concerns about equity and transparency within the system.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability, The Fourth Estate is pleased to present the initial installment of beneficiaries who received government of Ghana scholarships for the years 2019 and 2020.

The unveiling of this list sheds light on various challenges encountered by prospective applicants, with reports indicating instances where applicants were left uninformed about the status of their applications or were asked to make financial contributions before being considered for the scholarships.

Regrettably, such experiences have led to disillusionment among potential candidates, deterring them from pursuing opportunities they rightfully deserve.

For a detailed breakdown of the beneficiaries and further insights into the scholarships system, we invite you to explore the complete list on The Fourth Estate website.
